MTA Bus Driver Threatened With Knife on Upper East Side: Police

A beggar riding a bus traveling down 5th Avenue threatened the driver with a knife during an attempted robbery.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are searching for a man who pulled a knife on a bus driver driving down 5th Avenue on the Upper East Side Tuesday morning.

The attempted robbery occurred around 10:30 a.m. as the bus — on the M4 line — was approaching 5th Avenue and East 65th Street, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. The alleged robber had gotten on the bus on 5th Avenue and 110th Street and had asked other passengers on the bus for money, police said.

The man eventually made his way to the front of the bus, when he pulled a knife on the driver, an NYPD spokesman said. The bus driver did not hand over any money and opened the door of the bus, police said.
