Robber Threatens Woman With Acid At Upper East Side ATM, Police Said

The thief forced the woman to withdraw money from the ATM for him, police told Patch.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man threatened to throw acid on a young woman withdrawing cash at an Upper East Side ATM, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The suspect — who has not been identified — approached the 22-year-old victim on Friday around 5:30 p.m. in a Citibank on First Avenue by East 68th Street, police told Patch. The man approached the woman from behind and displayed a bottle with yellow liquid in it, police said.

"Yo, Mami, I have acid, and I’m gonna throw it in your face if you don’t give me $1,000," the robber said, police sources told the Daily News. An NYPD spokesman could not confirm this detail with Patch.

The woman complied with the robbers demand and withdrew $1,000 from the ATM, police told Patch. After taking the money, the man fled the scene, police said.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, standing 6-foot-4 with a thin build, police told Patch. The man was wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans at the time of the robbery, police said.
