Serial Bank Robber Ditches Headwear as he Hits 9th Bank: Police

A bank robber known for donning an assortment of different hats has struck for the ninth time.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A robber who has been hitting up different banks in the city struck for the ninth time Monday at an Upper East Side HSBC branch, police told Patch.

But there was something different about this robbery. The robber has built up a reputation for donning assorted headgear during his robberies, but on Monday the modern-day Dillinger left his trademark disguise at home. In the past the robber has worn lids such as a bike helmet, fedora and baseball cap.

On Monday the man walked into an HSBC on East 89th Street around 12:52 in the afternoon. He slipped the bank teller a note demanding money before fleeing with an unknown amount of money, police said.

Here's a look at some of the robber's many hats:

The robber had been laying low since robbing his eighth bank, an HSBC Bank at 1165 Third Avenue, on July 18. Maybe in the past month he's determined that hats don't suit him — but apparently crime still does.
