Street-Level Construction Begins on 19-Story Upper East Side Development
The mixed-used development on East 8th Street is an expansion of an existing parking lot.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Work has begun on the ground level of a 19-story, 56-unit development on East 87th Street.
Construction crews have begun working on the foundation of a development that will rise from the street level and also build atop an existing garage, New York YIMBY first reported. Pictures of the construction crew were sent to the website by people walking by the area.
A 60-foot, six-story building is currently occupying a portion of the building lot. The new development will consist of building portions built from ground-level as well as portions built atop the existing six-story structure.

The finished structure will rise 210 feet and contain 56 apartment units and a 151-car parking garage, according to plans filed with the Department of Buildings. The building plans call for a total of 135,040 square feet zoned for residential space, which means that if distributed evenly apartments in the building will be around 2,411 square feet. The remaining 20,724 square feet will be zoned for commercial use.
The first three stories of the new building will house the parking garage and residential lobby. The rest of the development will contain the apartment units, which will be condominiums, according to the building plans. The plans list a Timothy Gordon of Allan Garage LLC as the building's owner and Ismael Leyva Architects as the new building's designer.
