Two Men Choke, Rob 79-Year-Old Man In Upper East Side Stairway, Police Say

The elderly victim was grabbed from behind, dragged into a stairway and robbed, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is searching for two men suspected of violently robbing 79-year-old man on the Upper East Side, police told Patch.

The elderly victim was walking on Park Avenue between East 61st and 62nd streets on June 19 when he was approached from behind by one of the suspected robbers, police told Patch. The man grabbed the victim from behind, put him in a chokehold and dragged him into the stairway of 531 Park Avenue — a residential building on the block.

While the victim was being restrained in the stairway another robber approached him and removed his wallet, police said. The two suspects fled the scene after taking the wallet, which contained $250 cash and credit cards, police said.

The victim did not suffer physical injuries during the robbery, police told Patch.
