Uber Driver In Coma Following Upper East Side Attack, Police Say
The driver was assaulted on East 62 Street and Second Avenue after getting into an argument with passengers.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Uber driver is fighting for his life in a coma after being attacked by passengers he dropped off on the Upper East Side, according to reports and police officials.
The driver was dropping off a large group of passengers on East 62 Street and Second Avenue during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 5 when he got into an argument with two men who were riding in his car, police said. The argument escalated to violence when one of the passengers punched the driver in the head, causing him to collapse to the ground, police said.
Medics rushed the driver to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition in a coma after suffering head injuries, police said.

Police recently released photos of every passenger who was in the car with the group of men who attacked the Uber driver. No arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
Family members and supporters of the driver, identified as 54-year-old Mohamed Al-Gahaffi, held a rally in front of the hospital this weekend to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrests, CBS2 reported. In addition the offering the reward, groups such as the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers and the Yemeni American Merchants Association are also helping Al-Gahaffi's family with medical costs, according to the report.
