Upper East Side Buildings Evacuated Due To Gas Leak
An Upper East Side townhouse and neighboring buildings were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a gas leak, authorities said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side townhouse and some neighboring buildings were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a gas leak, authorities said.
Crews responded at 11:09 a.m. to 14 East 63rd St., a four-story townhouse, to reports of an emergency gas leak.
Authorities evacuated the building's occupants, as well as the occupants of neighboring buildings as a precaution. Sixty crew members including a utility company were at the scene trying to resolve it, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

There were no injuries and the situation was deemed under control by 12:53 p.m., the FDNY said.

The emergency response shut down nearby streets, causing traffic delays near 63rd and Madison Avenue, the city said in an emergency notification, advising drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area.
