Upper East Side Fire Breaks Out In Laundromat
Firefighters responded to a five-story building Friday morning shortly after 10 a.m.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire Friday morning in the basement laundromat of a five-story Upper East Side building, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.
The fire department responded to 1598 Third Avenue, located between East 89th and 90th streets, shortly after 10 a.m. Friday after getting a call about a fire in the building's basement, an FDNY spokesman said. The fire was placed under control shortly after 1 p.m., according to fire officials.
The response to the fire was upgraded twice Friday morning. The fire first spread to the building's top floor, which prompted a second-alarm response, according to fire officials. Around 11:03 the fire department upgraded the fire to a third-alarm response, an FDNY spokeswoman told Patch.

No injuries were reported during the fire, officials told Patch. The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
