Upper East Side Institution Mimi's Pizza Closes After 59 Years

The Upper East Side slice spot has been serving up quality slices in the same location for nearly 60 years.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Mimi's Pizza, an Upper East Side institution, has closed after serving up quality slices at its Lexington Avenue location for 59 years.

Fans of the neighborhood fixture took to Facebook to share their disbelief and to thank Mimi's for its great pizza and service:

Stephen Vanacore, the owner of Mimi's and son of the founder Dominic Vanacore, told The New York Daily News that a dispute with the building's landlord led him to shutter the restaurant for good.

The store has been closed for business since Sunday, but Vanacore auctioned off equipment Tuesday. Many customers stopped in the store Tuesday to get the news straight from Vanacore, according to The Daily News.

Patch tried calling Mimi's Pizza but was not able to reach anyone or leave a message.
