Upper East Side Man Kicks 6-Year-Old Girl Before Fleeing Inside Guggenheim Museum, DA Says

The man walked up to the girl and kicked her in the right thigh, sending her falling to the ground, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man is facing charges after kicking a girl on an Upper East Side street Tuesday.

William Pordy, 62, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree attempted assault and second-degree harassment, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

The alleged child-kicker was walking north on Madison Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when he passed by a 6-year-old and her mother, police said. The 6-year-old's head brushed Pordy's arm, police said, which apparently set him off.

Pordy turned around and kicked the girl in the right thigh, causing her to fall to the ground, police said. Pordy then attempted to flee but was followed by a witness who called the police, officials told Patch. The mean old man entered the Guggenheim Museum, apparently in an attempt to blend in with the crowd, but the witness was able to keep eyes on him, police said.

Officers entered the museum and stopped Pordy, before bringing him to the corner of East 89th Street and 5th Avenue and placing him under arrest, police told Patch.

Pordy appeared in court Wednesday and was released without bail, according to the criminal complaint. He is due in court again on Dec. 1, a spokeswoman from the DA's office said.

The 6-year-old suffered pain to her leg, but refused medical attention, police told Patch.
