Upper East Side Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Celebrates Rosh Hashanah

Local care center residents commemorate the Jewish New Year

The Upper East Side Nursing and Rehabilitation Center recently hosted a service and celebration for Rosh Hashanah – commemorating the Jewish New Year. The day’s events commenced with recitations of Psalm readings, reflective singing and numerous historic blessings. Per Rosh Hashanah tradition, the shofar blowing was the focal point of the service as the beautiful sound slowly resonated through the air.

The start of the Jewish High Holidays, culminating in Yom Kippur, is both a reflective and a festive time for those in the Judaism faith. During the celebration at the Upper East Side facility, staff encompassed both aspects of the special holiday. Following the service, a social gathering was held for all facility’s senior citizen residents to enjoy snacks and revel in the festivities. Apples, donuts, a vegetable platter and other hors d’oeuvres were served throughout the day. Residents were also treated to a musical selection by a local saxophonist during the Jewish New Year celebrations.

The Upper East Side Nursing and Rehabilitation Center focuses on offering its residents a multifaceted rehabilitation process – with an emphasis on renewing the heart and soul of those in embarking on a journey of healing. For the facility’s most spiritual residents, the numerous religious and interfaith ceremonies the healing center holds are an outlet for this needed rejuvenation.
