Water Main Break Floods Upper East Side Streets, NYPD Says

Police shut down three blocks on Lexington Avenue due to flooding and icy roads.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A three-block stretch of Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side was shut down Monday morning after a water main break flooded the streets and then froze over, police said.

Lexington Avenue between East 65th and 68th streets was covered in ice and deemed too dangerous to drive on Monday, according to the 19th NYPD Precinct. The NYPD stationed emergency personnel at the streets and also warned pedestrians to avoid the dangerous roads, according to a tweet sent by the 19th Precinct.

The streets were flooded when a water main broke at 901 Lexington Avenue, which is located near the corner of East 67th Street.
