Upper East Side Water Main Break Floods Street, Officials
East 62nd Street between Second and Third avenues was flooded early Wednesday morning and remains shut down for repairs.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side street was shut down Wednesday morning after being flooded by a water main break, a city Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson said.
A water pipe on East 62nd Street between Second and Third avenues busted around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, officials said. The city DEP responded to the scene and shut off the water in order to make repairs to the broken pipe, a department spokesman said.
About 127 people living on the street and seven nearby businesses were without water Wednesday morning due to the main break, a city DEP spokesman said.

The cause of the water main break and the extent of its damage to the street are still under investigation, a city DEP spokesman said. Two buildings on the block — 233 and 235 E. 62nd St. — had their basements flooded during the break, ABC7 reported.
