Woman Found Dead In Upper East Side Apartment; Husband Arrested

A 67-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday in an Upper E​ast Side apartment and her estranged husband was arrested, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A 67-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday in an Upper East Side apartment and her estranged husband was arrested at the scene, police said.

Around 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a 911 call reporting a woman not breathing inside a seventh-floor apartment at 110 East 87th St.

Police found the victim unconscious and unresponsive with abrasions on her neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 71-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. According to a police source, the man was the victim's husband, and was arrested for violating an order of protection that the woman had taken out against him. He is also being questioned in connection with her death.

Police had previously responded to multiple calls about spousal abuse at the apartment, including an Oct. 30 incident in which the husband was arrested for assault for shoving his wife to the floor from their bed for sleeping on the wrong side, according to the New York Daily News.

The victim's identity has not been released, pending proper family notification, police said. The medical examiner will determine her cause of death.
