Pickpocket Strikes in Upper East Side Sephora: Police

While using a makeup mirror in an Upper East Side Sephora a woman's wallet was removed from her bag, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are trying to identify a woman suspected of pickpocketing a customer at an Upper East Side makeup store.

While shopping at the Sephora on Lexington Avenue on Friday, Nov. 18 a 49-year-old woman had her wallet taken out of her bag, police told Patch. While the woman was using a makeup mirror in the store another woman approached her from the side and stole the wallet, which contained ID, $100, gift cards and credit cards, police said.

Grand larceny crimes are up 4 percent on the Upper East Side this year, according to crime statistics from the NYPD's 19th police precinct. There have been a total of 1,259 grand larceny incidents in 2016 compared to just 1,211 by this time in 2015, according to the crime stats.

The suspect (pictured below) exited the store and has not been identified.
