Woman Struck By SUV On Upper East Side, Critically Injured: Police

The woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a white Mercedes SUV, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A woman was critically injured when she was struck by a white Mercedes SUV while crossing the street on the Upper East Side.

The 37-year-old woman was walking in the crosswalk of York Avenue and East 86th Street around 9:10 p.m. on Monday when she was hit, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. The woman suffered critical injuries to her head and leg but is expected to survive, police said. She was transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital for treatment, police told Patch.

The SUV drive, a 56-year-old man, stayed on the scene of the collision and has not been charged with any crimes. The NYPD is still investigating the collision, Patch said.

Monday night's collision was the second recorded injury at the York Avenue and East 86th intersection this year, according to city Vision Zero data. Since 2009 there have been 27 injuries reported at the intersection, according to Vizion Zero data.
