13-Year-Old Dirt Bike Rider Killed In Manhattan Crash: NYPD

No arrests have been made, according to the NYPD.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — A 13-year-old boy died after the electric dirt bike he was riding collided with an SUV Thursday evening near the border of Harlem and Morningside Heights, according to New York City Police Department officials.

The crash happened around 8:46 p.m. on June 18 at West 112th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, police said.

According to the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad, the teen was operating a Razor MX350 Dirt Rocket dirt bike westbound on West 112th Street with a 14-year-old passenger when he maneuvered around a vehicle that was making a left turn onto Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

Investigators said the dirt bike then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling east on West 112th Street.

The rider, identified by police as Kayvon Jones, 13, suffered a head injury and was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. He was later pronounced dead.

The 14-year-old passenger suffered a leg injury and was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, a 63-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not injured.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD.
