17-Year-Old Girl Dies After Fall From Upper East Side Building: Cops

The NYPD is investigating her death as a possible suicide.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A 17-year-old girl died after falling from an apartment building on the Upper East Side on Sunday afternoon, a New York Police Department spokeswoman said Monday.

The girl was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in the rear of a building on 82nd Street, near Park Avenue, at around 12:54 p.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokeswoman said.

The teen's injuries were indicative of falling from "an elevated position," she said.

Detectives do not believe that any criminality is involved and they are investigating her death as a possible suicide, according to the spokeswoman.

The investigation is ongoing.

The building is around nine stories tall, according to Streeteasy.com.

One neighbor told The New York Post, “I was coming out of my apartment and there were three ambulances on the block. It’s horrible. It’s absolutely horrendous.”

It's at least the third time someone has fallen from a building on the street and died since 2019, according to The Post.
