63-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed Crossing Street in Morningside Heights: Police

The man was trying to cross the street when he was struck by a car. The driver stayed on the scene and there have been no arrests.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — A man crossing the street Tuesday night in Morningside Heights was struck by a car and killed, police told Patch.

The unidentified man, 63, was crossing Morningside Avenue outside of the marked intersection near West 124th Street when he was hit by a red 2009 Saturn traveling north up the avenue, police said. Police responded to the scene around 7:42 p.m. and found the man with severe head trauma, police said. The man was transported to Mount Sinai St. Luke's hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The accident was not a hit-and-run, as the driver of the Saturn remained at the scene of the collision. Police have not made any arrests and the incident will be investigated by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad, police said.
