Severe thunderstorms are possible on Thursday afternoon as a cold front moves through the New York City metro area, snarling evening travel heading into the long Juneteenth weekend, forecasters said.
According to the National Weather Service, all of New York City is under a Level 2 of 5 risk for severe weather on Thursday.
Forecasters said thunderstorms in the Big Apple are most likely between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., with strong winds making landfall before the rain.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said wind gusts could reach up to 30-40 mph, while AccuWeather’s forecasters said some gusts could reach 60 to 70 mph.
The cold front won't do much to lower the temperatures on Thursday, with the heat climbing into the mid-80s and low 90s.
Friday is on track to be calmer, with highs in the 80s and wind gusts around 20 mph, forecasters said.
The weekend is also expected to be dry and sunny, forecasters said, with temperatures in the 80s.
