UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Several streets on the Upper West Side will be blocked off for car-free trick-or-treating over the weekend for Halloween festivities, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.
These closures will be part of a record 160 Open Streets across the five boroughs that will host free Halloween and fall festivities, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and city Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn said.
Activities across the city will include trick-or-treating, face painting, live entertainment and games, with cultural organizations, community groups and schools helping turn neighborhood streets into gathering spaces.
As part of the celebration, the DOT plans to give out 75,000 pieces of candy during this year's celebrations, Flynn said.
