Join facilitators Audrey Kindred and Simba Yangala at this special ONLINE open house to explore our new youth course, ETHICAL EXPLORERS: Rooting for Humanity!
***
Ages 7-12 • 10 Weeks • Begins Saturday, September 20 • 10:30am-12:00pm
Exploring what makes us human—and what it takes to build a humane world together.
In a world of noise and endless distraction, children need more than just an education–they need roots for their convictions and values. In this new course developed by the New York Society for Ethical Culture, children will learn to see themselves as part of the long, evolving human story—creative, connected, and full of ethical challenges and choices.
Blending storytelling, science, social-emotional learning, philosophy, the arts, and civic engagement, this course will explore our human origins, our relationship with nature, the importance and complexity of living in community, and the visible and invisible forces that shape our lives.
Presented with the big questions that face us today, participants will study those who dared, struggled, and created before us in order to learn how to shape their own futures with empathy, courage and conviction.
Students will:
- Explore big ideas like fairness and justice, and build confidence speaking up for them
- Share stories about ethical values and learn about worldwide ethical heroes
- Create art and writing projects in their own keepsake “Book of Life”
- Engage in a “Deed of the Week” — a small act of kindness and justice
- Grow friendships rooted in kindness and curiosity
- Lead an end-of-season family celebration to share what they’ve learned
Who It’s For:
- Children ages 7-12
- Parents seeking values-based education free of dogma and sectarianism
- Families seeking progressive civic education in community
