Columbia University Evacuated: Smoke And Strange Smell Reported

A building on the Columbia University campus was evacuated Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — The engineering building on Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus was evacuated Wednesday night after an "odorous smoke" and "burning smell" was reported, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

The West 120th Street building was evacuated around 5:30 p.m. and several firetrucks responded to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said. The spokesman did not say what caused the burning smell, but said that no fire had been detected.

No injuries were reported, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.
