Thief Takes $10K In Computers From Columbia Campus, Police Say

A man is wanted for stealing computers worth more than $10,000 from a Columbia University building.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who swiped computers worth more than $10,000 from buildings on Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus.

The Ivy League thief entered the School of International and Public Affairs building on West 118th Street the morning of Friday, Sept. 29 and gained access to a restricted area of the building, police said. The man stole Apple camputers, and accessories from the area worth an estimated $10,329 and then fled the building, police said.

More than a week later on Oct. 7 the alleged computer thief returned to the building. This time, the man entered an office inside the building and swiped an Apple Macbook and charger valued at $2,880, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s with a dark complexion, goatee, and brown eyes, Police said. He was last seen wearing a black hat, black shirt, black shorts, gray socks and gray sneakers, police said. Police release a photo of the suspect Thursday (seen above).
