Friedman’s Restaurant Plans New Upper West Side Location

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Friedman’s Restaurant is expanding on the Upper West Side after the group behind the local chain purchased a retail property on Amsterdam Avenue for $4.135 million.

The new Friedman’s will occupy a vacant restaurant space within 541-555 Amsterdam Ave., according to Lee & Associates NYC, the commercial real estate firm that announced the sale.

The approximately 5,000-square-foot retail unit is also home to Barney Greengrass, the iconic Upper West Side appetizing shop and restaurant, and neighborhood butcher Hudson & Charles. Both longtime businesses will remain in place following the sale, the firm said.

The property was purchased by Mountain View Acquisition LLC, an ownership group behind Friedman’s, Pastrami Queen and several other restaurant concepts.

The owners plan to tailor the new Friedman’s location to the Upper West Side neighborhood, though details about its menu and opening date were not immediately announced.

Friedman’s is a family-run restaurant chain known for American comfort food and a menu designed to accommodate gluten-free diners.

“The Group is expanding its footprint in a top location on the Upper West Side, while also keeping a New York institution intact and operating for years to come,” Peter Braus, president of Lee & Associates NYC, said in a statement.

Braus represented the buyer in the deal. The property was sold by 176 West 87th Leasehold LLC, a family-owned company, according to the real estate firm.
