Gale Brewer Files To Run For Her Old UWS City Council Seat
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer has her eyes set on the District 6 City Council seat that she previously held from 2002 to 2013.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer might be coming back to the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Brewer filed paperwork recently for the District 6 City Council seat in 2021, currently held by Council Member Helen Rosenthal.
Rosenthal is term-limited from running again.
It's far from a surprise that Brewer is running for the City Council seat that represents the entirety of the Upper West Side and northern Clinton. Before becoming Manhattan Borough President, the long-time New York City politician held the position from 2002 to 2013.

She also served as the Chief of Staff to the Upper West Side Council Member Ruth Messinger from 1979-1989.
The West Side Rag was the first to report on Brewer's candidacy for the District 6 City Council seat and she told the Upper West Side paper the following when asked if she was running. "I am. Slowly, because I have a lot of Borough President things to do. But I filed with the CFB (Campaign Finance Board). There's no announcement yet, but I filed," Brewer told the Rag.

Brewer now joins a race with four other announced candidates: Sara Lind, David Gold, Jeffrey Omura, and Zach Weiner. The Manhattan Borough President immediately becomes the favorite in the race behind her decades-long track record as a well-liked politician in New York City.
She is maybe best known for the non-stop schedule she keeps seemingly 365 days a year, filling her nights up with community meetings and events.
Brewer has lived on the Upper West Side for more than four decades.
