Jacob's Pickles Closed After 4-Alarm Fire In Building

The restaurant said in a pre-recorded message that it was working hard to reopen.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Jacob's Pickles is closed to New Yorkers for brunch after a fire broke out Friday night in the building where the restaurant is located.

A pre-recorded message is played when calling the popular spot's phone number. The message says the restaurant is temporarily unable to serve customers at their Amsterdam Avenue location due to the fire and directs customers to its sister restaurant, Maison Pickle. There is no indication of when the restaurant will reopen, the message simply says the restaurant is "working hard" to reopen.

Reservations made for Jacob's Pickles will be accommodated at Maison Pickle, a restaurant spokesman told Patch.

The restaurant posted a message to Facebook Friday night, assuring patrons that the restaurant team was fine.

Fire officials have said the four-alarm fire was accidental. According to fire marshals, the fire was caused by an electrical extension cord. No further details were available.

One non life-threatening injury to a civilian and four non life-threatening injuries to firefighters have been reported, an FDNY spokesman told Patch. Dozens of fire units, containing around 170 firefighters, responded to the scene of the fire.

The fire broke out on the third floor of 511 Amsterdam Ave. — one door over from the comfort food hotspot — around 6 p.m. Friday evening. Flames were also reported in one of the building's shafts, according to fire officials. The fire was reported under control around 7:30 p.m., according to fire officials.
