Beloved Upper West Side Bar Announces Closing: ‘One Last Round’

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Jake’s Dilemma, a neighborhood bar known for late nights, game days and plenty of self-described "bad decisions," will close after 32 years on the Upper West Side.

The bar, which has served the neighborhood on Amsterdam Avenue between West 80th and West 81st streets since 1994, shared the news of the closure on Instagram, saying it had lost its lease and would shut its doors on Oct. 18.

“Jake’s has been so much more than a bar,” the owners wrote. “It’s been late nights, game days, first dates, bad decisions, lifelong friendships, incredible staff, and more stories than we could ever fit into one post.”

The bar is owned by Eat, Drink and Be Merry, a hospitality brand that also owns The Gin Mill next door to Jake's. The brand also owns The Stumble Inn on the Upper East Side and Hair of the Dog on the Lower East Side.

The bar thanked the employees and customers who made Jake’s part of their lives over the past three decades.

Regulars will have several more weeks to stop by for “One Last Round” before the closing date. The operators added that patrons can still visit The Gin Mill next door after Jake’s closes.

“While Jake’s is closing, the party isn’t,” the announcement said.
