Man Carjacked on Upper West Side During Food Delivery Gone Wrong

The man was pepper sprayed and dragged out of his van on Amsterdam Avenue near West 82nd Street, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man was pepper sprayed and carjacked Tuesday while delivering food on the Upper West Side.

The deliveryman, who has not been identified, was sitting in his van on West 82nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 4:15 p.m. when a man approached the vehicle and sprayed him with a chemical substance, police told Patch.

Another robber helped drag the man out of the van, which the two robbers used to flee the scene on Amsterdam Avenue, police said.

The victim ran into a nearby restaurant after the attack to seek help, Chrissy Guzman, an employee at Hampton Chutney Co., told the Daily News.

"He was just saying, ‘Help me, help me, help me. I can’t see. Call the cops,'" Guzman told the Daily News.

The deliveryman was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police told Patch.
