Man Caught In Escalator At UWS Movie Theater, FDNY Says

The man suffered leg injuries at the Loews on Broadway.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man was rescued from an escalator and taken to the hospital Wednesday night at an Upper West Side movie theater, an FDNY spokesman said.

The 74-year-old man got stuck in the escalator around 7:45 p.m. at the AMC Loews 84th Street 6, located on Broadway between West 83rd and 84th streets, an FDNY spokesman said.

Witnesses told CBS2 that the escalator appeared to "bounce," causing the man's foot to get caught in the machine.

"The escalator bounced and then it caught onto his foot. It was like it malfunctioned and then it caught onto his leg," a witness told the news station. "I saw him standing there hollering in agony. He wanted help and there was nothing they could do."

The man suffered a leg trauma and was taken to St. Luke's hospital, an FDNY spokesman said. The injuries suffered were not considered life-threatening, the spokesman said.
