Man Sentenced For Knifepoint Rape In Upper West Side Hotel, Prosecutors

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man is facing life in prison for raping a woman he solicited for prostitution at the Upper West Side hotel he was employed at, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance's office announced Tuesday.

Farhan Khan, 28, received a sentence of 14-years-to-life Tuesday, prosecutors said in a statement. Khan was convicted on four counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of second-degree kidnapping for the 2015 rape of a 35-year-old woman, prosecutors said.

On December 30, 2015, the victim met Khan at the Rodeway Inn — where Khan worked as an assistant manager — after Khan responded to an online advertisement for prostitution, according to the Manhattan DA's office. Khan tied the woman up in a 10th-floor hotel room and sexually assaulted her while threatening her with a knife, prosecutors said. Khan later moved the victim to another hotel room where he raped and sexually assaulter her, prosecutors said.

The victim's sister became concerned when she could not reach the victim over the phone, according to the DA's office. After failing to receive assistance at the front desk of the hotel the victim called police, prosecutors said. Officers knocked down the door of the hotel room where Khan was assaulting the victim and arrested him, prosecutors said.

"For more than two hours, Farhan Khan sexually assaulted a defenseless woman at knifepoint while she begged for her life," District Attorney Vance said in a statement. "Numerous studies show that prostituted individuals are more susceptible to acts of violence, including rape."
