Man Wanted For String Of Manhattan Robberies, Including On UWS

The robber sent a man to the hospital in Lower Manhattan and fought off a security guard on the Upper West Side, according to police.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The New York Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man wanted in connection with three robberies that took place throughout Manhattan from July 9 to Aug. 13.

The first two incidents took place in Lower Manhattan, while the most recent robbery happened at a Duane Reade on the Upper West Side, according to police.

Here are the details surrounding three robberies that police have connected the suspected man to, according to the NYPD.

Incident No. 1

  • On July 9, the robber approached a 58-year-old man inside the Canal Street 6 train platform, and asked him for his wallet. After the 58-year-old said no, the robber punched the man repeatedly in the head, knocked him down, and ran off with the victim's groceries. The 58-year-old was rushed to the Bellevue Hospital, where he got treated for a cut on his face.

  • On Aug. 13, the robber walked into a CVS at 81 8th Avenue in Lower Manhattan and took diapers off the shelf and into his bag. When he was approached for taking the diapers by a store employee, the man threatened the worker with a metal object. The robber walked out of the store and fled in an unknown direction.

Incident No. 3

  • Also, on Aug. 13, the robber entered a Duane Reade on 79th and Amsterdam on the Upper West Side and attempted to walk out of the store with a variety of unpaid items. A 23-year-old private security guard tried to physically stop the man from making his getaway, but he was again able to use a metal object to flee the scene. The security guard didn't sustain any injuries in the struggle.
