NYC Pol Spars With 'Upper West Side's Most Deranged Right Winger'

The Twitter confrontation came after Curtis Sliwa announced he would be launching the Ronald Reagan Republican Club in Astoria, Queens.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Queens Council Member Tiffany Caban called out and sparred on Twitter with former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa on Wednesday, who she called the "UWS' most deranged right winger."

The conflict began after Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder and Republican, announced that he had created the Ronald Reagan Republican Club in Astoria to "take on AOC (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) and Caban," in the Democratic socialist stronghold that the Queens neighborhood has become.

"We’re going into the belly of the beast of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York City," Sliwa said in a statement.

Caban, who was elected to the City Council last year to represent Astoria, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Woodside, and Rikers Island, didn't take long to respond.

"The UWS' most deranged right winger wants to come to Queens and tell us how to live," she tweeted. "He's scared of AOC and my vision for democracy, economic stability, and true public safety."

"Help send this deluded bigot back where he came from by chipping in today," she added with a link to donate to her 2023 campaign.

Sliwa, who lives with his wife in a studio on the Upper West Side along with 15 to 17 cats, was quick to fire back against Caban's tweet.

"Everyone should be scared of your and AOC's vision for public safety because it eliminates the police," he wrote on Twitter. "But when you were in fear because of threats you called 911."

Sliwa's Republican club aims to ā€œbring conservative values to the forefront of local politics,ā€ according to a statement released Wednesday by Maria Sliwa, Curtis' sister, and his PR representative.

The red-beret-wearing Guardian Angels leader lost against Mayor Eric Adams in his 2021 electoral run but has remained on the sidelines combating several political issues in the city.
