Parliament Coffee Bar Opens in New York Historical Society on Upper West Side

Parliament Coffee, now located in the NY Historical Society, imports its beans from Nicaragua's La Virgen Coffee Estates.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Visitors of the New York Historical Society will be able to satisfy their caffeine cravings at the museum's newly-established coffee bar Parliament Coffee.

Parlaiment Coffee, operated by Starr Catering Group, opened its flagship location Dec. 5 at the museum's entrance on West 77th Street and Central Park West, according to a press release. The shop will serve up beverage made from beans imported from Nicaragua's La Virgen Coffee Estates.

The coffee shop has a relationship with the Nicaraguan farm to benefit the farmers and roasters by paying for the coffee before it is produced, according to a press release. In addition, Parliament Coffee's farmer Henry Hueck provides housing and education for all the farm workers and ensures the farmers and their families recieve medical screenings.

"Our first Parliament Coffee cafe brings to life our commitment to quality coffee and puts a central focus on the art and passion of our coffee making, distinctly different from corporate coffee shops and producers across the US," Guy Kellner, COO and president of Starr Catering Group, said in a statement. "Parliament Coffee has a more direct positive impact on local farming communities and, thanks to its direct sourcing, maintains the distinct and complementary flavors signature to the brand. We are thrilled to be able to offer this exceptional coffee to New Yorkers and tourists alike."

In addition to coffee the new shop will serve pastries such as apple pear rye muffins, bakery style layer cakes, cranberry orange scones and a rotating menu of sandwhiches and salads.
