Popular UWS Church Holds Post-Election Vigil For Community
The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine is holding a vigil on its front steps for the 2020 Election.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — With the presidential election still up in the air, people are at a bit of a standstill on Wednesday.
However, if you're looking to get out of the house, the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine on the Upper West Side is hosting "Post-Election Vigils on the Steps" from noon to 6 p.m.
The church is located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at West 112th Street.

The cathedral's clergy will gather on the steps of the house of worship for a "mostly silent vigil." Every hour, a passage from scripture or the Book of Common Prayer will get read.
"Drawing upon Christ's teachings and the legacy of the Episcopal Church, the Cathedral upholds its commitment to peace, unity, and calm in a world of chaos and division," the cathedral wrote in a description of the event. "In the presence of turmoil, the Cathedral stands with people of all backgrounds and beliefs as we wait for each and every vote to be counted."

The Reverend Clifton Daniel III Dean told Patch that the vigil is about having people "come together."
"I pray that our leaders will serve all the people of our national equally in a way that expands the hope of the poor, the weak, the lonely, the homeless and the hungry," Dean said to Patch.
In terms of the presidential election, the AP projected Democratic candidate former Vice president Joe Biden as the winner of New York almost the moment the polls closed Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Biden had 73.58 percent of the vote in the city, according to NYC Board of Elections results.
