UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — Colorful messages of support for the Black Lives Matter movement have made their way to the plazas in Riverside Park.

The plaza near the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Monument has been covered with chalk drawings offering support for the ongoing protests against police brutality that have continued throughout New York City and the country since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The drawings include Martin Luther King Jr. quotes, messages honoring the lives of the black transgender community and two "Say Their Names" mosaic listing the names of people who have lost their lives at the hands of police, according to photos taken by the Riverside Park Conservancy.

"At the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Plaza in Riverside Park, kids make a statement in support of Black Lives Matter," the Conservancy wrote online. "May @nycparks continue providing space for us to organize, to protest, and to heal."

The chalk drawings have also popped up in other areas of the park, including on the Promenade at 110th Street and on the upper path around 135th to 150th streets, according to the conservancy.

The messages of support come as protests continue throughout the Upper West Side against police brutality and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

They join other artistic symbols of support throughout the city, whether it be a city-led mural on a street in Bed-Stuy or colorful paintings on boarded-up businesses in Inwood.
