NYC Mayor, Celebrities To Protest Outside Trump's Columbus Circle Hotel Thursday

The protest will be attended by Mayor Bill de Blasio, advocacy groups and celebrities including Mark Ruffalo, Rosie Perez and Alec Baldwin.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — As Donald Trump prepares to assume the highest elected office in the United States of America, New Yorkers are preparing to resist some of the President-elect's policy priorities for his first 100 days in office.

On the eve of Trump's inauguration a diverse mix of advocacy groups including Planned Parenthood of New York City, the Working Families Party, Families USA, Greenpeace US and New York Communities for Change will hold a protest outside of Trump International Hotel & Tower in Columbus Circle. The protest will be attended by political figures such as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, civil rights activist Al Sharpton and celebrities such as Mark Ruffalo, Michael Moore, Shailene Woodley, Rosie Perez and Alec Baldwin.

The protest is being organized to "make clear to President-elect Trump and Congress what is at stake if they move forward with their suggested policies and remind them that New Yorkers will continue to protect our people and the environment. New York City and cities across the country will stand in solidarity with people fighting to advance the causes of racial, social, environmental and economic justice," according to a press release.

De Blasio took to Twitter to urge New Yorkers who have concern's about Trump's stances on immigration, climate change, healthcare and policing to come to the rally.

The rally will begin around 6 p.m. and continue until 7:30, according to a press release.

"Thousands of New Yorkers are coming together to stand up for one another, as we will do every day, to protect the values we hold dear - to fight for health care, criminal justice, immigrant rights, and action on climate change," Actor Mark Ruffalo said in a statement. "We are sending a message to Washington that we will fight at every step discrimination and harmful policies, today, tomorrow, and every day."
