Upper West Side Buildings Evacuated for High Carbon Monoxide: FDNY

Fifteen people were forced to evacuate their buildings on West 87th Street between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A carbon monoxide scare caused four buildings on an Upper West Side block to evacuate Saturday night, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

Fifteen people evacuated 340, 344, 345 and 346 W. 87th St, located between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue, around 5:36 p.m., an FDNY spokesman told Patch. The residents were able to return to their buildings at 8:20 p.m. once carbon monoxide readings went down to a safe level, and FDNY spokesman said.

The high levels of carbon monoxide were caused by two manhole fires on the block, the FDNY told Patch.
