Upper West Side City Council Rep Schedules Forum On 'Alternative Facts'
Media experts and city officials will speak to community residents about navigating today's media landscape.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY ā Welcome to the era of alternative facts, it's quite a time to be alive. In this new era what you hear and see may not exactly match up with what those in our new president's administration may want you to believe.
But don't freak out, Upper West Siders, help is on the way. A community forum to discuss "fact vs. fiction" ā organized by city officials ā will be held Feb. 1 at the B'nai Jeshurun community house on West 89th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue.
The forum is being organized by Upper West Side City Council Representative Helen Rosenthal and the National Association for Media Literacy Education, according to a news release. Speaking at the forum will be Rosenthal, Chief Digital Officer at NYC.gov Sree Sreenivasan and five experts in the field of media literacy.

The "fact vs. fiction" event is the second in a series of community forums to discuss post-election fears under the Donald Trump presidency. New York City ā with the exception of Staten Island ā has long been a liberal stronghold. With nearly 86 percent of voters in Manhattan casting their ballot for Hillary Clinton, according to state board of elections data, the city held true to form in the 2016 presidential election.
