UWS Private School Is Best In The State, Study Says

UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — One Upper West Side school is the top private school in the state, according to a new ranking.

School ranking site Niche.com released its updated list of the best private schools in New York State, with many New York City schools earning high marks on the list.

But no school earned higher marks than Trinity School, a kindergarten through 12th grade college preparatory institution on West 91st Street. The school came in as the top New York City school and the top school in the state on the list.

It was one of 9 in the Upper West Side that took a spot on the elite private school list.

The top New York City schools also included several in the Bronx, Brooklyn and, not surprisingly, the Upper East Side.

The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents," according to Niche.

Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings, and more. Niche both pulls data from entities such as the U.S. Department of Education, and colleges and universities and also relies on users to self-report information such as test scores.

Niche's full methodology is described here. Niche gives the most weight to SAT and ACT scores of students, the rank of colleges that students matriculate to and the percentage of students at each school who go on to four-year colleges.
