UWS Restaurant Shuttered By Health Department, Records Show

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — City officials have ordered a neighborhood restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue between West 93rd Street and West 92nd Street to close for racking up 13 violations during a health inspection, records show.

New Asia, a Chinese takeout restaurant located at 666 Amsterdam Ave., was ordered to close on Monday after inspectors reported rats, roaches, flies and improper food safety controls, according to publicly available city records.

The closure comes after the restaurant was cited for 60 violations the week prior.

Here's the full list of New Asia's violations from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene from Monday:

• Evidence of rats or live rats in establishment's food or non-food areas.
• Live roaches in facility's food or non-food area.
• Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in establishment’s food and/or non-food areas. FRSA flies include house flies, blow flies, bottle flies, flesh flies, drain flies, Phorid flies and fruit flies.
• Establishment is not free of harborage or conditions conducive to rodents, insects or other pests.

The restaurant will need to correct the violations before it can reopen.
