UWS School Evacuated After Box With Unknown White Substance Found

A nursery school on the UWS was evacuated this morning after a suspicious box was found containing an unknown white substance, said NYPD.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The River Park Nursery School on the Upper West Side was evacuated Tuesday morning after a suspicious box was found in the building containing an unknown white substance, according to police.

The school on 711 Amsterdam Avenue, near 95th Street, was evacuated around 11:30 a.m., with all 19 children and four staff members making it out of the building safely, police said.

The nursery school is located on the first floor of a 27-floor building at the address.

Police are still investigating what the unknown white substance within the box was, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

However, the Emergency Services Unit and the Department of Environmental Protection determined Tuesday evening the substance to not be hazardous, according to the West Side Rag.
