There were twinkles in the eyes of senior citizens amidst twinkling stars decorating the Wantagh High School gymnasium as they spent a day enjoying food and festivities. It has been a tradition that Senior Citizen Fun Day is held the day after Junior Prom. The decorations are left in place and members of the high school General Organization Club (G.O. Club) host a day of fun for local senior citizens. The theme of this year’s junior prom was “A Night Under the Stars” and star decorations lined the hallways leading to the gym, hung from the ceiling and festooned the tables. Members of the G.O Club along with their advisor, Marie Cammallere, Superintendent Maureen Goldberg, high school Assistant Principal Jim Brown and Junior Class Advisor Deborah Arcuri helped serve delicious food from Gino’s Restaurant in Bellmore. After the meal, the guests were treated to a musical program of popular songs from different eras performed by the “Teensations” singing group. A number of the guests took to the dance floor and even encouraged some of the teen volunteers to join them! Coffee and cupcakes followed the music and dancing. The day was not over, however, until a few rounds of the ever-popular BINGO were played and everybody left with a prize and a smile. The students enjoyed the interaction with their guests and the senior citizens were extremely grateful for their special day with their young hosts who made them feel like stars.
