SEAFORD, NY — Tuesday was the first day of school in Seaford, marking the end to the summer and the beginning of another year of learning for over 2,100 students from the elementary, middle and high school levels.
At the high school, there were workshops throughout the day to mark the occasion, with students getting the chance to meet with their guidance counselor and get a headstart on some scholarly pursuits. The first day was of particular import to this year's seniors, the class of 2027, who were walking into their last first day of school in Seaford. The "last first day," district officials said, was celebrated with matching class of 2027 t-shirts and decorations on the cars that seniors drove to school.
Meanwhile at the middle school, students were adjusting to traveling between classes and taking on the first memorization test of the year: The grueling task of remembering a locker combination.
In Seaford's elementary schools, there was a "first first day" Tuesday: The class of 2039 started kindergarten, and got their first taste of what school is like Tuesday. First on their agenda, district officials said, was making new friends and learning what a classroom routine looked like.
