• Wantagh High School dedicates 9/11 memorial 25 years after attacks (liherald.com) — Wantagh High School has unveiled a permanent 9/11 memorial honoring twelve local residents who died in the attacks, giving students and neighbors a place to reflect every day. Funded largely through the annual Wantagh Warrior 9/11 Memorial 5K and community partners, the illuminated twin-tower replica anchors a broader effort to teach Wantagh students about the personal impact of Sept. 11.
• Retiree becomes the heart of Brentwood farm fighting hunger, food insecurity (abc7ny.com) — A 78-year-old Wantagh retiree, Jim Silberger, has become an essential volunteer at Healthy Harvest Farm in Brentwood, where he helps grow thousands of pounds of produce for food-insecure families. Drawing on a long career and a desire to stay active, he spends most of the year working the fields and also volunteers with Kiwanis, a children's camp, and his church.
