Busy Day: Wantagh FD Tackles Three Car Fires Minutes Apart

No one was hurt, but the firefighters were put through their paces.

Members of the Wantagh Fire Department had a very busy day last week, battling three different car fires around the community all within two hours of each other.

According to the department, the three fires occurred on March 27. The first call came in around 2:45 p.m. for a fire near Merrick Road and the Wantagh Parkway. The fire was put out in about 30 minutes, when a second call came in for a car fire on Manchester Road. The second fire was put out in about 30 minutes as well.

Later, at 4:30 p.m., a third call came in, this time on the Southern State Parkway near the Wantagh Parkway. The firefighters had the fire under control in about 40 minutes.

The fire department said there was nothing suspicious about the fires, but the timing was definitely unusual. Thankfully, no one was injured during any of the incidents.
