Decisive Victory Caps Off Exciting Homecoming For Seaford Vikings
The town celebrated its 375th anniversary as the Vikings celebrated the start of another excellent season of football.
It was a clear and crisp fall afternoon for Seaford High School’s annual Homecoming celebration on Oct. 13. Morning rain cleared out just in time for the noon parade, which traveled from Seaford’s downtown to the high school football field. It was just the beginning of an excitement-filled day.
The parade grand marshal, chosen by the Seaford Booster Club, was Skip Lawrence, who taught physical education in the district for 38 years. He coached middle school and junior varsity football, wrestling, baseball and soccer, and remained a volunteer wrestling coach in his retirement. Known as the “ultimate Viking fan,” he was honored during a pre-game ceremony and presented with citations by local elected officials.
The community came together at Homecoming to celebrate the 375th anniversary of Seaford, which was founded in 1643. Parade banners created by the elementary schools and middle school marked the milestone. This year’s Homecoming theme was “Seaford Goes to the Movies,” with each of the four classes assigned a genre: science fiction, horror, action and comedy. The Indiana Juniors banner designed by the Class of 2020 was selected as the winner.
