Driver In Wantagh Parkway Crash Charged With DWI

Both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the car, police say, and suffered serious injuries from the crash.

New York State Police released more information about the crash that closed the Wantagh Parkway Saturday night.

According to police, at 4:44 p.m. Saturday, a 2007 Honda Accord was heading north on the parkway, south of exit W6, at a high rate of speed. The driver, Anthony Chiantella, 27, of Bayville, lost control of the car, police say, and struck a guide rail, ejecting both himself and his passenger.

Police say both Chiantella and his passenger, Nicholas Mustakas, 24, of Port Jefferson Station, were taken to Nassau University medical Center in critical condition.

Chiantella was arrested at the hospital and charged with second-degree vehicular assault and DWI.

State Police closed the Wantagh Parkway again on Sunday afternoon to investigate the scene more. Police say the investigation is still ongoing. Police ask anyone who saw the crash to call the State Police Long Island Headquarters at (631) 756-3300.
