WANTAGH, NY — Students at Forest Lake Elementary School have something to be proud about this holiday season.

They donated and helped assemble treat bags for the nonprofit Interfaith Nutrition Network, which helps the hungry and homeless across Long Island.

On Dec. 20, the school held the Day of Giving, as students decorated paper bags with holiday greetings. More than 300 bags were filled by the children with items donated by Forest Lake families.

Animal crackers, cheese, cereal, chips, fruit cups, juice and water were among the bagged goodies.

"We wanted every child to have that chance to give back to the community for the holidays," Principal Jessica Zimmer, who coordinated the project, said in a statement.
