In this course we will survey the history and philosophy of yoga through its classic texts from the Rig Veda (c. 1000 BCE) to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (c. 1450 CE).
We will place the more well-known Yoga Sutra and Bhagavad Gita into the context of a tradition that includes Vedanta, Buddhism, Jainism, Samkhya, and the devotional schools of the ancient epics, ending with the creation of the yoga practice we know now.
